Notes: Pietà
Notes: This miniature, representing the Pieta, marks the prayer to the Virgin, "O intemerata" (O immaculate virgin). Along with the prayer "Obsecro te" (I beseech you), this was one of the most popular supplemental texts found in books of hours. The scene of Mary's grief over her son's death is an appropriate image to accompany this prayer, which addresses the sacred love of the mother and son.
