Mughal painting is an Islamic art form that originates in South East India between the 16th to 18th centuries. It consists primarily of illustrations bound in books or individual paintings kept in albums. This art style was based on, and influenced by, Western prints. 
Portraiture underscores the prolific use of human representation, despite the prohibition of humans and animal forms in Islamic art that is limited to architecture and religious works.
