It’s the spookiest time of the year again, and the Free Library is getting in on the action! Read on for ways to celebrate the Halloween season with us at every age.
This year, trick-or-treating in Philly will fall on Monday, October 31st, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Not sure where to go to show off your creepy costumes and collect your sweet treats? Explore this list of some popular local spots for trick-or-treating.
If at-home haunting is more your style, you could check out some of the spine-tingling reads or scary movies from our collection. Try the 2021 Shirley Jackson Award winners, Ghastly Graphic Novels, teen titles to Read With the Lights On, or some Chilling Children’s Books. Get dressed up in your spookiest costume and join us for an outdoor costume parade around Central Parkway Library. Start at the front entrance on Vine St to begin with your friends from Central Children's, and collect goody bags along the way! This event is intended for patrons 12 and under.

Come learn about the life of Mary Shelley and sew your own electrified monster just in time for Halloween. We will learn the fundamentals of hand sewing to construct a stuffed monster, then use LEDs, conductive thread, and batteries to bring it to life! For school-aged kids and teens.
Spooky Foods: Classic Horror and Fresh Offal with Dave Feola of Ember & Ash

Culinary Literacy Center at Parkway Central Library
For this special Halloween program, Dave Feola, Executive Chef of the "snout-to-root" restaurant Ember & Ash, will prepare a delectable menu featuring organ meat, blood, and other surprisingly delicious ingredients. We will also revisit beloved tales of terror from the library's collection. This ticketed event is for adults.
