Notes: In this fully illustrated psalter, the historiated initials comment on the text of the psalm they illustrate. This initial C begins Psalm 18, "Celi enarrant gloriam ..." (The heavens show forth the glory). It represents King David addressing the Apostles Peter and Paul, identified by their respective attributes, the key to the Church and a sword. The rubric to the left of the initial helps to explain this scene: "Hic David commendat apostolos novam legem predicantes" (David entrusts the New Law to the preachers).
Notes: Initial C, beginning Psalm 18
Notes: This manuscript has been dated to ca. 1225-1240.
