Notes: Presentation in the Temple
Notes: This miniature precedes None of the Hours of the Virgin. The Presentation in the Temple is the typical iconography for this Hour. Also typical in books of hours were decorative borders that teemed with animals and figures. This border is inhabited with birds, a butterfly, and a couple who are collecting fruit from a tree. The marginal imagery found in many books of hours and in other types of medieval manuscripts was not necessarily meant to relate to the main image, but rather added to the richness and visual interest of the book.
