Notes: Single item: View of the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company Building, situated at the northeast corner of Third and Dock Streets. The first cast-iron building in Philadelphia and one of the earliest cast-iron buildings in the nation, it was built 1850-51 after designs by architect Gordon Parker Cummings. Visible in this illustration is a statue of William Penn resting on an ornamented dais above the front entrance on Third Street. The building was demolished in 1956.
