Single item: Original Stock Certificate issued by the Pennsylvania Population Company to Tench Francis, a merchant, lawyer and agent for the family of William Penn, and the first cashier of the Bank of North America. Dated February 6, 1793, this partially-printed document is signed by John Nicholson, as President of the Pennsylvania Population Company. All of the manuscript portions and signatures are written in brown ink. The document reads, in part: "It is Hereby Certified by the President and Managers of the Pennsylvania Population Company, -That Tench Francis is entitled to one Share of Stock in the said Company, Numbered Eight Hundred and Thirteen, Transferable in the presence of the Treasurer by the said Tench Francis, or his Attorney; subject nevertheless to the payments due or payable thereupon, according to the terms of the Plan of the Association." -(Signed) "Jno.
