Free Library Taking Flight at Philadelphia International Airport

By Michelle S. RSS Tue, July 2, 2013

The Free Library’s newest virtual library is now at the Philadelphia International Airport! Located in the Terminal D/E connector, the Library’s free, high-speed Wi-Fi welcomes users with a special splash page that provides access to our ebooks, Author Events podcasts, historic photographs of Philadelphia from our digital collections, and more! The Library’s strategic partnership with the airport launched today, and we are excited to offer our educational and entertaining content to visitors from around the world. And we’re proud to announce that we’ve received the Top Innovator Award from the Urban Libraries Council for our work at the Philadelphia International Airport!

In addition, if your travels take you through the airport this summer, don’t miss Philadelphia’s Literary Legacy, an exhibition that celebrates 50 of our greatest local writers—from the authors of the Declaration of Independence to the bestselling scribes of present day—which was created in partnership between the airport and the Free Library. What’s more, you can also access our free Wi-Fi at the exhibition area, too!

I grew up in Center City, am now a reference librarian in California. I love this! Since many people going through live in Philly and commute regularly, would you consider expanding this to a staffed branch with holds pickup, book return, maybe even a physical collection? Or sending out staff during periods of major plane delays to do storytimes? Merry Luskin, Girls High 1966, U of P 1970

Hi, All, I also think it is a great thing the Free Library is doing. I also want to say "hi" to Merry because I knew her at U Penn and our parents became great friends!
