Thomas Willcox emigrated with his wife Elizabeth from Devon England in 1718, and  immediately began building a paper mill in Delaware County, Pa. Ivy Mill was established in 1727, and quickly found a customer in Benjamin Franklin, for whom it supplied various kinds of paper. Franklin used paper from Ivy Mills to publish his Poor Richard's Almanac and other publications. The mill also supplied paper for the first u.s. continental currency. It was the third paper mill in Pennsylvania.
