Halftone reproduction published in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper of an illustration taken from a drawing by artist Elizabeth Hallowell. Betsy Ross is shown seated in her house sewing the flag for which she became famous. Behind her is an open door through which can be seen a section of a flower garden as well as neighboring houses. A hearth, complete with fire irons, a broom and bellows, is surrounded by a tall mantelpiece.
