Illustration recalling the "Log Cabin" political campaign of 1840, which was in many respects the most spectacular in the history of American politics. The excitement which marked the campaign was unprecedented. "Tippecanoe and Tyler too" was the rallying-cry of the Whig Party, and the popular enthusiasm was immensely quickened by the military career of General William Henry Harrison, the Whig candidate. Incumbent President Martin Van Buren was easily defeated.

The Log-Cabin and Hard-Cider Campaign of 1840. - Drawn by Frank H. Schell. Copyright, 1896, by Leslie's Weekly.
