Halftone reproduction on newsprint of a photograph showing an elevated view of South Broad Street looking towards City Hall. The high-rise in the center of the picture is the 21 story North American Building. Designed by James H. Windrim as the headquarters of the newspaper, The North American, it was the tallest building in the city when it was completed in 1900. A year later, when this photograph was taken, its height was surpassed by the newly finished City Hall. At a height of 548 ft., City Hall remained the tallest building in Philadelphia until the construction of One Liberty Place in 1987.
