Shows a row of grand residences in a fashionable neighborhoood overlooking Rittenhouse Square. The white Italian-style mansion dominating the block was built in 1852 by Joseph Harrison, Jr., after designs by Samuel Sloan. Harrison was an internationaly famous engineer, who constructed Russia's first railroad. The house on the right, on the corner of 18th and Locust, was the residence of J. Kearsley Mitchell, noted physician.
