Notes:
Two 1862 pencil sketches of the lighthouse at Fort Mifflin, viewed from the Delaware River. Although unsigned, these are almost certainly drawn by Philadelphia marine painter and sketch artist George Robert Bonfield. The Fort Mifflin Blockhouse Light was built in 1849, on a pier about 2.8 miles offshore of the fort. It was the first Pennsylvania lighthouse on the Delaware River. It was decommissioned in 1881.
Item 1, top: Image titled, "Light House near Fort Mifflin Delaware River 1862." This pencil sketch depicts several sailboats faintly drawn in the foreground. The lighthouse is seen attached to the two-story blockhouse, with the top of the lighthouse tower in greater detail. Hand-drawn sketch, 18 x 12 cm, 1862.
Item 2, bottom: Image titled "Light House Delaware River below Fort Mifflin 1862." This pencil sketch features a sailboat in the center foreground, and an occupied rowboat to the left, both drawn darker and with greater detail than the blockhouse light and various boats in the background. Hand-drawn sketch, 17 x 8.5 cm, 1862.
