Item pdcc00616, top [image dimensions 14.0 cm x 23.0 cm]:

Original watercolor drawing of a rural scene with a large tree in the foreground framing a view of the city in the distance. A small family group picnic under the tree, and a horse stands by a furrowed field, unhitched from its plough. A small boat is being rowed on a millpond below the field; the mill and its outbuildings line the water's edge. Farm houses and country mansions dot the landscape.  In the middle distance a horseback rider gallops across an open field toward the town center.

Signed and dated in pencil on lower margin. Inscription in pen on verso of mounting paper reads: View of part of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Drawn by C. C. Milbourne June 1796.

Notes:

Item pdcc00617, bottom [image dimensions 12.7 cm x 20.2 cm]:
