Item 1, entire page:  Early image of the Moyamensing Prison complex, at 1400 E. Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia, c. 1835, before the addition of the Debtor's Wing in 1836.  The prison building, comprised of three sections, was designed by architect Thomas Undick Walter, between 1832-1835, in the English Gothic style. The prison operated from 1835-1963, and was demolished in 1968, but the facade of the Debtor's Wing (not in this image) is preserved at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.  Engraving, drawn by artist Blouet and engraved by Lemaitre direxit, for an unidentified French publication, 22 x 14 cm, undated (but probably 1835).  The caption at the top of the image reads, "Etats-Unis" (United States), and the bottom reads, "Prison de Compte a Philadelphie" (prison in Philadelphia County).
