Item 1, entire page (including a 6 cm section which, when unfolded, goes below the scrapbook page): Two sketches by Bulletin artist J. L. Giles, used to illustrate a Harper's Weekly article about the tragic fire in Philadelphia on February 8, 1965. According to the Bulletin reporting, it began in the storage yard of a coal oil plant, Blackburn & Co., at 9th & Washington Streets. Fiery coal oil from thousands of burning barrels flowed south on 9th Street, as far as Federal Street. The images show helpless residents, from Washington Avenue to Federal Street, watching or fleeing the "lake of fire" streaming out of control. It destroyed 50 homes on 9th Street, and killed 9 people, including one fireman. Top engraving, 24 x 16 cm; and bottom engraving, 24 x 18.5 cm, published in Harper's Weekly, 2/25/1865.
