Item 1, entire page: Caption reads, "Burning of the Market Street Bridge, Philadelphia, Last Saturday Evening (from The Philadelphia Art Bureau of The Daily Graphic)" Image of firefighters and ruins of the Market Street Bridge, which was the second permanent structure built at this location, spanning the Schuylkill River at Market Street, to connect 30th Street Station with Center City. The first bridge, known as the Schuylkill Permanent Bridge, was in use from 1805-1850, when it was also destroyed by fire. The second bridge was built soon after, adding lanes for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Market Street Railway, as well as for personal vehicles. On November 20, 1875, the bridge was destroyed by the fire depicted in this print. Today's Market Street Bridge is its fifth permanent construction, in use since 1932.
