Item 1, top: Photograph showing the two story brick facade of the German Society Hall located on the West side of 7th Street below Market. Built for the society in 1809, the building was purchased by the Master Builders' Exchange in 1887. An additional story was added in 1891. When this undated picture was taken, the first floor was occupied by the city gas office. Also shows a large group of men dressed in business attire posing in front of the building. Item 2, bottom: Depicts the Great Central Fair in aid of the U. S. Sanitary Commission, in Logan Square, June 1864. The thoroughfares which form the extreme foreground are Nineteenth and Vine Streets. The door facing this intersection is at the northwest corner of the Square, and the perspective sweeps in a southerly and eastwardly direction over the roofs and spires of the city. The great cathedral basilica of SS Peter & Paul looms up in the background on the left hand side of the picture. Engraving in 1864 by J. Rea, after a drawing by F. B. Scholl.
