Notes:
Item 1, entire page: Image of the active construction site at 13th & Chestnut Streets, c. 1905. The original Wanamaker's Grand Depot was demolished in stages to make way for the much larger John Wanamaker's Department Store, which would take 10 years to complete. This was an ambitious undertaking in such a bustling urban setting, as seen by the concurrent activity of construction workers, horse-drawn carriages, and pedestrians. Reproduction of a photograph in an unidentified newspaper, 28 x 21 cm, c. 1905.
