Item 1, left:  1922 newspaper article captioned, "Old Chestnut St., 'Colonnade Row' and the Mansions That Prececed Its Day."  The article details the history of Chestnut Street as an aristocratic residential area, before giving way in the late 19th century to commercial development.  Text of an article for an unidentified newspaper, 17 x 32 cm, 3/10/1922.

Item 2, lower right:  Undated image of Henkels, a furniture store at the NW corner of 13th & Chestnut Streets, already demolished at the time of this 1901 North American news item.  The text below the photograph places the image in the time period after the building was a pair of residences known as the Fotterall Mansions (built 1835), and before the property was purchased by John Wanamaker (year unknown), who planned to expand the Wanamaker Grand Depot to Chestnut Street.  Text and reproduction of an undated photograph for the North American, 12 x 16 cm, 3/14/1901.
