Item 1, top left:  This image shows three historic Philadelphia buildings--on top is the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, at the SW corner of 13th & Locust Streets; bottom left is the Franklin Institute, at its first location at 15 South 7th Street; and bottom right is the Spring Garden Institute (today, Spring Garden College), at the NE corner of Broad & Spring Garden Streets.  Reproductions of photographs for an unidentified publication, 16 x 13.5 cm, undated.

Item 2, top right corner:  Calling/business card for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, when it was at 820 Spruce Street (1871-1883).  The logo features William Penn's family's coat of arms; the motto "Dum Clavum Teneam" means "while I hold the helm."  Printed material, 7.5 x 4.75 cm, undated.

Item 3, top right, below the logo:  image of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, when it was at 820 Spruce Street (space rented in Pennsylvania Hospital's Picture Building,1871-1883).  Engraving for an unidentified publication, 8 x 9.5 cm, undated.  The engraver's name appears at the bottom left of the picture--Smith Bros. Phila.

Item 4, center left:  Image showing the Locust Street location (since 1884), a former mansion.  This building was demolished in 1905, and the Historical Society rebuilt its present building on the same site.  Reproduction of a photograph for an unidentified publication, 11.5 x 7 cm, undated.

Item 5, bottom left:  Photograph of the interior of the Historical Society, located in Pennsylvania Hospital's Picture Room (leased the room, from 1871-1883).  Cyanotype, 12.5 x 9.75 cm, undated.
