Two plates from the Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, published in 1901.

Item 1, top:  Image of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, the oldest natural history museum in America.  It was established in 1812, and opened to the public in 1828.  This image shows the Academy when it was located on the NW corner of Broad & George (today, Sansom) Streets, from 1840-1876.  Reproduction of an 1865 photograph in the above-mentioned report, 24 x 14.5 cm, 1901.

Item 2, bottom:  Image of the first building open to the public, of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.  It was used from 1826-1840, located on the SE corner of 12th & George (today, Sansom) Streets. Reproduction of an undated photograph in the above-mentioned report, 24 x 14.5 cm, 1901.
