Item 1, top: Image of College Hall, at the University of Pennsylvania.  Completed in 1871, College Hall stands today as the oldest building on the University of Pennsylvania’s West Philadelphia campus. It was designed in the Second Empire and Gothic styles by the University's own professor of architecture and drawing, Thomas Webb Richards. Reproduction of a color photograph for a 1900 Buehler & Williams publication, 18 x 14 cm, undated. 

Item 2, bottom:  Image of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, in Overbrook, PA.  The Roman Catholic seminary was founded originally in 1832,  and the school had several Center City locations, before moving in1871 to the Seminary's sprawling Overbrook campus, located along Lancaster Avenue, just west of Philadelphia.  Reproduction of an engraving for an unidentified publication, 23 x 13.5 cm, undated.
