Depiction of the house and garden of Lawrence Seckel in the lower part of South Philadelphia known as the "Neck". The original Seckel pear tree grew on the property owned by Seckel, a prominent wine merchant who introduced the pear commercially.

The house, which was Seckel's country seat, was later owned by Stephen Girard.
