View shows the mansion standing in manicured grounds at 615-619 Chestnut Street. Originally built 1701-1722 as the country retreat of Joshua Carpenter a successful brewer and brother of Samuel Carpenter. The dwelling was occupied by a succession of eminent families until its last owner, Judge Tilgham, sold the property to the Arcade Company in 1826. The lithograph shows the side view of the house from Sixth Street. Two men stroll down the path surrounded by trees.
