An early depiction of John Bartram's house built by him in 1731. It was here, on land that sloped down to the banks of the Schuylkill River, where he layed out his historic botanic garden. The two and a half storied stone house features three dormer windows, and a recesssed porch with three ionic masonry columns. Upon a stone built in the wall is engraved this epithet: "Tis God alone, Almighty Lord,/Th Holy One by me adored./John Bartram, 1770."  Inscribed on a stone on the gable wall is the following: "John and Ann Bartram, 1731."  In front of the house two figures are depicted with a horse-drawn carriage. Nearby stand two adults and a child.
