The National Guard's Hall, 518-20 Race Street, played an important role in Philadelphia during the Civil War. Also called the Armory of the National Guard, the building was the starting and ending point of troop enlistment and dismissal and a venue for military parades and speeches. It also served for a time as a military hospital.
