Depicts the first home of Wills Eye Hospital, which opened in 1834. The building was designed by notable Philadelphia architect Thomas Ustick Walter, and accomodated 70 beds. Founded in 1832 through a bequest of Quaker merchant James Wills, Wills Eye was a pioneer in establishing diseases of the eye as a separate branch of medicine in the United States.
