Halftone reproduction of photograph showing St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum located on the corner of Seventh and Spruce Streets. The prominent Catholic charity was built in 1834 to designs of Philadelphia architect Thomas Ustick Walter. Another famous name associated with the orphanage is Sister Mary Gonzaga who was its head for many years.
