Notes:

Halftone reproduction of a photograph showing the Edwin Forrest Home in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia. A prominent nineteenth-century actor, Edwin Forrest founded the home for retired and infirm actors on his country estate "Springbrook" in 1873. He made provision in his will for up to twelve people to live out their lives, free of charge. In 1926 the home was sold to a developer and the institution was relocated to a manor house in Fairmount Park where it stayed until 1986. The institution then merged with the Lillian Booth Actors' Home of the Actors' Fund of America, in Englewood, New Jersey.
