Halftone reproduction of an illustration of the Friends Almshouse, which stood on Walnut Street between 3rd and 4th Streets. Built in 1729, the almshouse provided food, housing and employment for indigent members of the Society of Friends. It was torn down in 1840. Also shows an occupied Hansom Cab drawn up outside the front door of the building, and people walking on the sidewalk.
