Halftone reproduction of a photograph of the seven-story apartment building. Built in 1901, the Normandie was a retirement hotel occupied by more than 300 residents. On the morning of January 8, 1968 a fire destroyed the building and all but one of the residents were safely evacuated in what was referred to as "The Miracle on 36th Street."
