Notes:

James Wilson (1742 - 1798) was a Founding Father, signer of the U. S. Declaration of Independence, and one of the original six Supreme Court justices appointed by George Washington. As a strict adherent to the rule of law, he successfully defended at trial the rights of 23 loyalist Philadelphians whose property had been seized following the end of the British occupation of the city. In response, an angry mob stormed Wilson's house where he and his colleagues had barricaded themselves. Eventually the military intervened and the attack was prevented.
