This view of the south front of the mansion shows the magnificent twenty-four foot high portico and the six supporting Tuscan columns. Tall trees and funerary monuments are visible in the park-like setting. Built in 1786 by William Hamilton on land he inherited on the west side of the Schuylkill River, the mansion is the earliest example of the Federal style of architecture.
