Distant view, from a snow-lined driveway lined with winter trees, of the facade of the house owned by Judge George M. Stroud. Judge Stroud was the author of a groundbreaking book documenting state slave laws. Entitled: A Sketch of the Laws Relating to Slavery in the Several States of the United States of America. The 1827 volume was a key resource for Harriet Beecher Stowe when she was writing Uncle Tom's Cabin.
